Having attained immense progress in the drive towards revamping the Liberian Fisheries sector, the Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, Mrs. Emma Metieh-Glassco, has been invited by Authorities of the World Maritime University in collaboration with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve as Speaker during an International event.
Mrs. Glassco, an alumnus of the World Maritime University in Sweden (MSc. Maritime Affairs with emphasis in Ocean Governance) has been invited to speak at a side event at the United Nations General Assembly under the theme “Capacity Building for successful International Negotiation and Diplomacy in regards to Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction future legal instrument” slated for September 11, 2018, New York.
The gathering will enable Mrs. Glassco to share her experience on how her acquired knowledge and skills prepared her to participate effectively in international negotiations and multilateral diplomacy in support of national and regional interest in her role as Director General for the Fisheries Sector of the Republic of Liberia.
This specialized maritime university, under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization, a United Nation Agency, recognizes the astute role of the Director General since her ascendency and some of her recent achievements in regards to the training of seafarers, as well as the recent conclusion of the extension of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement between Liberia and the European Union and her role as Head of Delegation on fisheries matters, amongst others.
The World Maritime University also appreciates His Excellency, Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia for her preferment and explicit confidence reposed in Director General Emma Metieh-Glassco.
According to a NaFAA press release, the University recognizes that her role as speaker at the United Nations General Assembly side event could serve as motivation for other women aspiring to become maritime professional/expert and also for member countries to ensure that alumni of the University are strategically position to serve their respective countries which is the sole objective of the World Maritime University Program.
