NaFAA Gets Double Media Recognition
Monrovia – The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority of Liberia has again bagged two prestigious awards, this time from the Liberian media.
Two of the country’s highly rated media institutions, the Inquirer and News newspapers, have placed NaFAA above other government entities for its excellent performance during the year 2018.
The Inquirer newspaper named the NaFAA’s boss as Managing Director of the year, while the News newspaper rated NaFAA as the best government agency of the year.
As a way of showcasing the performances of public officials and institutions, the media obligates itself with the task of publishing annual evaluation of public officials and institutions, normally in its climaxing editions.
It can be recalled that for the past ten months of public service, Director General Emma Metieh Glassco, along with her management team have commenced several initiatives ranging from capacity building to strengthening relations with bilateral and multilateral institutions aimed at attracting support for the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.
Said partnership has attracted, among other things, a US$3M grant support from the Icelandic government for the establishment of a competent laboratory to enable the testing of fish products on the Liberian market.
Moreover, the entity began a partnership conversation with the Japanese owned Yamaha corporation with the aim of exploring the possibility of establishing a manufacturing plant in Liberia for the manufacturing of motorized boats that will transition local fishermen from the use of canoes.
Responding to the double media awards, NaFAA’s Director General Emma Metieh Glassco lauded the media for following on going activities in the fisheries sector.
Madam Glassco thanked His Excellency President George M Weah for reposing his confidence in her person to lead the process of sustainably managing the country’s fisheries resources.
She further assured of her determined commitment to ensure that the full potential of the sector is viably utilized to increase revenue generation and stimulate economic development.
