The National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority Republic of Liberia team paid a high-level courtesy visit to His Excellency Yin Chengwu, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Liberia. The meeting took place at the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia and marked a significant step in rekindling diplomatic and technical cooperation between NaFAA and the People’s Republic of China.
During the visit, the team conveyed sincere appreciation on behalf of the Liberian Government and NaFAA for China’s longstanding support to Liberia’s development, particularly in the fisheries sector. In the spirit of renewed partnership, discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, including the potential adoption of advanced Chinese Aquaculture Technologies, the flagging of additional Chinese vessels to boost the national fisheries fleet, and the need for robust capacity-building programs to enhance the technical expertise of NaFAA staff.
This engagement is part of a broader strategic effort by the current NaFAA leadership to restore and strengthen partnerships with international allies and development partners. Over the years, collaboration between NaFAA and the Chinese Government had significantly declined; however, the visit reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to reestablishing strong, productive ties with China in the interest of Sustainable Fisheries Development.
Meanwhile, a major highlight of the meeting was Ambassador Yin’s announcement of five academic scholarships to be awarded to NaFAA—an encouraging gesture and a tangible outcome of the revitalized partnership.
The meeting was one of several recent diplomatic and technical engagements initiated by NaFAA as it forges a new path of growth, reform, and innovation within Liberia fisheries and Aquaculture sector.
