American Fish Processing Factory to Operate in Liberia

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority USA delegation achieved a significant milestone for the future of Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture industry. Acting DG J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr. and team had a highly productive and strategic meeting with MK Industries, a U.S.-based company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, to advance plans for establishing Liberia’s first fish processing and fish meal factory.

This transformative facility, which is expected to be located in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, will transform the country’s fish value chain.

Under this landmark partnership:

  •     The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), with funding support from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), will construct the processing facility.
  •     Once completed, MK Industries will lease, fully equip, and operationalize the factory, bringing technical expertise, investment, and job opportunities to the sector.

This collaboration represents a major boost for Liberia’s blue economy.
