Egyptian Aquaculture Delegation To Begin Tour of Potential Facilities Across Liberia

 

Monrovia, Liberia- A three-man high-level Egyptian Aquaculture Delegation is expected Friday, January 24, 2025, to begin touring aquaculture facilities in Grannd Cape Mount, Bomi, Montserrado, Lofa, and other Counties to start assessing Liberia’s aquaculture needs.

 The three-man Egyptian Aquaculture delegation is headed by Dr. Ahmed Saneyeldin Mohammed Sadek a member of the Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency of Egypt. Others on the delegation include Engineer Hany Mohammed Mabrouk Ibrahim, General Manager for Fish Resources of the Authority for Fish Resources Development, and Dr. Dawlat Ali Hassanin Mohamadin, Veterinarian of the Lake and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency of Egypt.

According to a NaFAA Press Release, the Egyptian Agriculture Experts will specifically tour potential aquaculture facilities at the Bong Mines Reservoir, Lake Piso, Gbedin Lowland, the Foyah Lowland in Lofa County, and other places.

Moreover, speaking Thursday during a welcoming ceremony held at NaFAA’s Corporate Headquarters on Bushrod Island, the Director General Hon. Emma Metieh Gllassco disclosed that the cardinal purpose of the Egyptian Delegation’s visit to Liberia is to gather first-hand information on the country’s Aquaculture state of affairs and to develop a comprehensive Aquaculture strategy for food sufficient.

Hon. Glassco further stated that Liberia’s Aquaculture solution will be developed with the help of Egyptian Aquaculture Experts who have come with the sole purpose of laying the groundwork for high-level transformation in the sector.

The Liberian Fisheries Director General disclosed that Liberia is highly impressed with the gesture from the people of Egypt and looks forward to strengthening the partnership it has developed with the government of Egypt to boost agriculture development across the country.

At the same time, the head of the visiting Egyptian delegation to Liberia, Dr. Ahmed Saneyeldin Mohammed Sadek assured that the Egyptian Government will ensure that the MoU signed in 2024 will yield positive results as they are in Liberia to gather facts on the aquaculture sector and later help development a workable strategy.

 

Dr. Mohammed Sadek who is a member of the Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency of Egypt disclosed through a PowerPoint presentation that the mission of the delegation is to conduct an assessment of water quality, assessment of the current situation of hatcheries and farms, and assessment of aquaculture facilities management among others.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Sadek mentioned upgrading aquaculture farms and hatcheries to achieve the best water quality and selecting suitable fish species for culturing as one of the goals of the Egyptian delegation. Others according to him, include improvement of aquaculture facilities designed, improvement in the management of aquaculture facilities, improvement of aquaculture workers’ skills, and selection of suitable sites to implement new aquaculture activities.

Commenting on the methodology that would be employed to achieve the goals of the delegation Dr. Mohammed Sadek pointed out field visits to several aquaculture sites, communicating and meeting with stakeholders to evaluate the current situation, and connecting water samples to analyze the most important parameters for aquaculture by several measuring tools.
